Lynchburg's cultural center is The Academy of Fine Arts an esteemed organization dedicated to bringing the best of the fine arts and educated related programs to the region. The Academy features two art galleries, a brand new state-of-the-art black box theater where it offers a full complement of performance art, visual art and dance classes for all ages. Currently The Academy is in the process of renovating the historic 1905 Beaux Arts Theatre. The restoration of this beautiful edifice, one of six originally constructed in Virginia, is of great significance as it is the only one standing.
