Introducing Map Viewer - The City's new online GIS
Ever wanted to see an aerial view of what Lynchburg used to look like, superimposed on what it looks like now? Want no more: the new GIS Map Viewer can do that - and so much more.
That particular feature is called the Swipe tool and it can be found under the Tools menu at the top of the Map page in the new on-line GIS application.
Maybe you want to search for a particular property? The Search Criteria page gives you many options for searching properties in Lynchburg. Results can be viewed or saved to a .pdf format. You can also show your search results on the map page and export a map in various formats as well. It's easy!
The City of Lynchburg rolled out the new GIS Map Viewer on February 4th, 2009. The new application is the result of months of collaboration by several City departments including Community Development, the Assessor's office, Utilities and Information Technology. Rounding out the team was our Richmond-based consultant, WorldView Solutions. Our goal was to end up with a product that did everything the old WebMap did, but with improved functionality and access to even more data than before. We're all very proud of this application, and know that you are going to like it too.
The GIS Map Viewer is available for all of your on-line GIS needs. The old GIS WebMap retired on February 23, 2009 after many years of faithful service.
If you are on the City website you can access GIS Map Viewer under the quick index menu on the top right corner of the main page. Or by using this path http://mapviewer.lynchburgva.gov/parcelviewer.
Give it a test-drive, and let us know how you like it. We welcome feedback. If we don't know a problem exists, we can't fix it É so let us know what you think!
Remember, there are extensive help files on the system if you get stuck, and the GIS staff is available to help and answer questions, too.
