Mentor One™ Celebration Dinner

8th Grade Mentor One™ Students from each of Lynchburg's three middle schools celebrated their successful completion of the 2009 Mentor One™ Workforce Development Program over dinner on Thursday September 24, 2009. This year's celebration dinner was held in conjunction with the career speed dating event in which the students had opportunities to hear from local professionals, Lynette Callands of Bank of the James, Rob Mangrum of Wiley Wilson, and Hope Townes with the City Attorney's Office.

The celebration dinner recognizes the students' completion of the Mentor One™ program which is a year long program consisting of mentor interactions with business professionals in the community, and visits to Region 2000's local colleges and universities. This program allows the students to gain a wealth of on site business knowledge that can not be learned in a classroom or by reading a book. The students, parents, and the Office of Economic Development would like to express a sincere, heartfelt thank you to the Mentors who donated their valuable time away from the careers and personal lives to make a the Mentor One™ Program a success.

Economic Development Specialist, Telly Tucker, congratulates Antonia Deloatch on sucessfully completing Mentor One™ Career Exploration.

During the Mentor One™ Career Speed Dating, Assistant City Attorney, Hope Townes, tells Kathleen Cooper interesting facts about being an attorney.

Da'Ronda McCormick and William McCoy asked Lynette Callands, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager at Bank of the James, about a typical day managing a bank.
