Lynchburg Grows

Do you know when your next meal is... Do you know where your food comes from? A local organization known as Lynchburg Grows would like everyone in our community to know the answers to these questions.

Lynchburg Grows is a 7-acre urban farm in the heart of the City of Lynchburg with the goal of helping all persons in our community enjoy the healthy benefits of locally grown fruits and vegetables. This grassroots organization demonstrates the economic viability of a small farm operation and the potential of regional farms to feed communities.

Lynchburg Grows has recently received a federal grant to implement a community food system-- a comprehensive approach to develop long-term solutions to ensure food security in our community by linking food production and processing to activities in community development, economic opportunity, and environmental enhancement. This funding will make possible a program focusing on two key areas: A job-training program for disabled and low-income individuals to create self-reliance and food security and an education program for youth and families in the Greater Lynchburg Area.

Lynchburg Grows invites you to join us for a tour of the future H.R. Schenkel Urban Farm & Environmental Education Center hosted by Michael Van Ness, founder of Lynchburg Grows.

Lynchburg Grows is located near City Stadium. Just past the City Stadium turn left off Fort Avenue onto Englewood Avenue and follow it two blocks to the dead end.
