On October 14, 2008, Lynchburg City Council adopted an ordinance to change the name of the 'Industrial Development Authority of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia' to the 'Economic Development Authority of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia' as requested by the Lynchburg IDA. The name change is effective October 14, 2008.
City Council suggested the name change to reflect the wider range of economic development activities, in addition to industrial development, undertaken by the body. Accordingly, the Lynchburg IDA studied the matter and requested City Council change its name.
